On Tech Disparity

In an age of digital technology, shouldn’t everyone have equal access to our growing digital nation? This paper examines the digital divide in Bergen County, focusing on the unequal access to technology and its impact on education, employment, and social inclusion. Despite the rapid growth of digital technology, significant disparities persist between various socioeconomic groups, rural and urban areas, and different age demographics. This divide exacerbates existing inequalities and limits opportunities for those without reliable internet access, modern devices, or digital literacy. Through an analysis of the current state of technology access in the county, this paper highlights the social, economic, and educational consequences of digital exclusion. Policy recommendations emphasize expanding infrastructure, providing digital literacy programs, and ensuring equitable access to devices for all residents.
